What Is Music-Driven Lighting Automation?
Music-driven lighting automation is a control system that analyzes live audio in real time and uses the results — beat positions, energy curves, phrase boundaries, and transient events — to drive lighting fixtures, video servers, and other stage hardware. It listens to whatever music is playing right now and turns that signal into DMX, Art-Net, sACN, OSC, or MIDI output, with no pre-programmed timecode or manual cue-chasing required.
The core idea is simple: a computer can "hear" a track more precisely than a human operator, react faster than a hand on a fader, and do it for hours without fatigue. It turns the mechanical work of chasing beats into an audio-processing problem, so operators can focus on creative direction.
How Music-Driven Lighting Works
The signal chain has five layers.
1. Audio Capture

2. Onset and Transient Detection
